How we pick

Let us be straight about the thing that decides how much you should trust any review site: whether they actually did what they say they did. Here is exactly what we do, and what we do not.

What we actually do

We compete on transparent, reproducible research, because that is a game we can win honestly and it is the one that helps a small-space buyer most. For every product we consider, we:

• Compile the published specificationsfrom the manufacturer or retailer listing — dimensions, weight capacity, materials, mount type, clamp range, VESA pattern, color temperature, whatever the category needs.
• Do the footprint and clearance math.A desk’s real footprint in square feet, the depth a monitor base needs, the desk-edge thickness a clamp fits, the wall length a corner desk claims. This is the number that decides the purchase, and almost nobody publishes it. We do.
• Read the aggregated owner reviewsfor the failure that recurs in a category — wobble on desks, drift on monitor arms, glare on lamps — and weight it accordingly.
• Score against a published rubric (below), and name at least one product in every roundup we would not buy, and why.

What the scores are — and are not

Each product gets a score out of 10, broken into four or five named metrics that fit the category (footprint, sturdiness, value, and so on). Those scores are editorial judgments from documented research. They are notlab measurements, because we do not have a lab. Where a number came from someone else’s measurement, we name and link them in that page’s Sources. Where a spec is not published, we say so rather than guess.

Prices are live, or they are gone

Every price on this site is pulled from the Amazon Product API and stamped with the date we fetched it. If our price data is more than 48 hours old, the number disappears and the button falls back to “Check price on Amazon” — it never shows you a stale figure. This is deliberate: a wrong price is worse than no price, both for you and under Amazon’s operating agreement. Not one competitor in this space does this.

Small-space first, always

The one bias we will cop to: we rank for the small-space buyer, not the spec-maximizer. A desk that is technically superior but too big for an apartment loses here to a smaller one that fits. That is the whole point of the site.

When we get it wrong

We will, eventually. The editorial policy explains how we handle corrections and how to report one. Prices refresh daily; roundups are reviewed quarterly and re-verified against current listings.
